Ukraine grows non-GMO soy according to European standards

Despite major difficulties due to Russian aggression, Ukrainian farmers firmly adhere to sustainable agricultural production and contribute to global food security.

This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky during the international non-GMO summit, the Ministry of Agricultural Policy said in a statement.

“Farmers continue to sow Soybean – a vital culture for the protein supply to Europe. In 2022, more than 1,5 million hectares were sown in Ukraine and 3,7 million tons of soy were collected, which is 7% larger than in 2021. Since the beginning of 2023, about 1 million tons of Ukrainian soy have already been exported to the EU » reported Taras Vysotsky.

He noted that Ukraine, as a candidate for EU membership, adheres to the latest changes in EU legislation. In particular, I have subscribed to the Anti-Deforestation Rules. And as early as the end of 2024, some agricultural products such as soy will only be grown in areas where no forests have been cleared.

In addition, according to Taras Vysotsky, in 2022 about 658.000 thousand tons Soybean in Ukraine (17,5% of total production) certified as sustainable non-GM soy. This ensures that soy strictly complies with EU phytosanitary regulations and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
