Kazakhstan will increase the area under cultivation of sunflowers and sugar beets


This year's total seeding area will be 23,4 million hectares, which is 68,6 thousand hectares larger than in 2022.

According to the Minister of Agriculture Erbol Karashukiev, according to the Akimat of regions, a forecast structure of cultivated areas in 2023 was formed.

So, the total sown area in the current year will be 23,4 million hectares, which is 68,6 thousand hectares larger than in 2022. It is planned to increase the area under cereals and legumes by 117 thousand hectares, fodder crops by 36,5 thousand hectares and sugar beet to increase by 6,7 thousand hectares.

Due to the changing market situation, a slight reduction in the acreage will be some Oilseeds like Thistle, Soybean and Mustard forecast, the minister added.

At the same time, it is planned to increase the area by 30,8 thousand hectares for such a socially significant crop as sunflower. For vegetable stream plants and potatoes, the sowing area will be increased by 11,1 thousand hectares. As for moisture-intensive crops, in the current year, compared to last year, the cotton area is predicted to decrease by 14,8 thousand hectares, which will amount to 111,4 thousand hectares.

At the same time, despite the government's order to reduce the areas devoted to water-intensive crops, there is an increase in rice areas compared to last year by 7,6 thousand hectares (2023 – 95,4 thousand hectares), Karashukeev said. In general, he said, the planned areas for Grains, vegetables and potatoes fully meet the needs of the domestic market.
