Winter crops are in average condition across much of the EU

According to the March MARS report, winter crops in a large part of the EU have been affected by adverse weather conditions since the start of the season.

Particularly in the northern regions of Europe, excessively wet conditions coupled with frost have had a negative impact on winter crops and the most affected fields are expected to be reseeded with spring crops.

Excessively wet conditions have also been recorded in Eastern Europe since autumn, which delayed budding and made the development of winter crops more difficult.

At the same time, winter crops in Romania and Bulgaria suffer from a constant rainfall deficit, which particularly affects the development of winter rapeseed crops.

In this ZusaCurrently, the MARS experts are forecasting average yields for common wheat of 2024 tons/hectare (+25% for the year; 5,91 tons/hectare in the last five years) in the EU for the MY 2/5,87, and for durum wheat of 3,44 tons/hectare (+5%; no change), for winter barley 5,95 tons/hectare (-2%; 5,91 tons/hectare) and for rapeseed 4,25 tons/hectare (+2% ; 3,18 tonnes/hectare).
