Uruguay could reduce wheat and corn production in the 2024/25 marketing year


According to the forecasts of the USDA FAS in Uruguay, the country could produce 2024 million tons in the 25/1,3 marketing year Wheat harvest, which is less than last season (1,56 million tonnes), reports Grain Central.

Accordingly, grain exports are also expected to decline to 800.000 tonnes, compared to 1,13 million tonnes in the 2023/24 marketing year, the highest in the last decade.

The country's corn harvest is also forecast to fall by 35% to 1 million tons, compared to last season's record 1,55 million tons.

The decline in production will be mainly due to the return of drought in Uruguay in the spring and summer of this year due to the La Niña phenomenon, which has a negative impact on wheat and Corn yields will impact.
