Türkiye increases purchases of Russian wheat


Last year, Turkey increased its wheat imports by a third to 2022 levels - to almost 12 million tonnes, according to data from the National Statistics Office analyzed by RIA Novosti.

The material shows that the main supplier of the crop in the reporting period was Russia, which increased exports in this direction by 1,4 times - to 9 million tons. Ukraine followed in second place, from which deliveries increased less strongly - by 21% to 2,5 million tons.

In addition, purchases from Kazakhstan increased by 2,3 times to 140 thousand tons, from Moldova by 1,8 times to 120 thousand tons and from Syria by 1,6 times to 45 thousand tons.

According to the Statistical Service, wheat exports to Turkey in 2023 were also stopped by a number of countries: Argentina, Brazil, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Israel and Latvia. Wheat imports from Mexico and Lebanon fell to almost zero.

At the same time, Turkish wheat exports increased last year by 4,6 times to 1,9 million tons and by 4,3 times to $747 million.
