Polish government reacts to farmers' protests in Warsaw

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has the ZusaClashes between protesters and police that took place in Warsaw on March 6 were strongly condemned, reports RBC-Ukraine.

“I will not communicate with hooligans, I will only talk to farmers. Those who broke the law in the actions and caused such actions, such as a police officer being seriously injured, will be held legally responsible. I do not treat them as demonstrators-agrarians, but as people who have broken the law,” he said.

The Polish head of government added that he would continue dialogue with the disgruntled farmers, but the date for the next meeting has not yet been set. In addition, Tusk added that he spoke with EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski about solving the existing problems.

For his part, Poland's Deputy Minister for State Property, Robert Kropiwnicki, criticized the demonstrators in a media commentary for resorting to aggression against police officers.

“It is unacceptable for the Polish state to stage such an uprising, even in the name of correct demands. I have the impression that the farmers who wanted to express their opinion were also joined by militants who decided to stage a major uprising in the center of Warsaw,” he said.
