Russia exported a record volume of chickpeas in 2023

At the end of last year, Russia shipped more than 565 thousand tons of chickpeas abroad - this is 2,2 times more than in 2022. These data are given by the federal center “Agroexport”.

They emphasize that the current volume of shipments is the maximum in the last five years. In 2019, 472 thousand tons of this culture were sent abroad.

The largest buyer of domestic grain legumes in the reporting period was Turkey. Pakistan came second and Egypt third. No information on physical shipments is available for these regions.

Previous analysts at “Agroexport” reported that in the long term, Russia can increase chickpea supplies to Turkey from $46,7 million in 2022 to $200 million. At the same time, Russian chickpeas were the cheapest for Turkey in 2022 – $723 per ton, which is 24,1% lower than the weighted average price.
