Poland is planning a mirror-image response to the ban on grain transit from Ukraine

The Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development hopes that it will not be necessary to stop the transit of agricultural products from Ukraine.

Polish Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Sekierski said this to journalists in Brussels.

“Our negotiations with representatives of the Ukrainian government went in this direction. The Ukrainian side proposed that 95% of trade and grain flows be carried out through the Sea Canal and the Danube, which is actually the fulfillment of the last agreements… So transit should be reduced to zero. Let’s hope such a decision will not be necessary,” the official said.

The Polish minister added that a unilateral ban on transit could provoke a mirror-image reaction from the Ukrainian side.

“We should also not forget that trade goes both ways. Poland is an exporter of dairy products, so the other side can retaliate. That is why the Polish milk producers and processors spoke here,” explained Czeslaw Sekerski.
