Farmers in East Kazakhstan region, the largest producer and processor of sunflowers in Kazakhstan, are calling for the elimination of export duties on oilseeds and "to make a more loyal decision on the issue." About it reports the press service «Atameken».
“As we know, the East Kazakhstan region is one of the leaders in the cultivation of oil crops and their deep processing. But our farmers have been living within the framework of bans, restrictions, various quotas and levies for the third year », emphasized Daniyar Akimbayev, head of the Department of Agribusiness of the Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Recall that from February 4, 2023 in Kazakhstan there is a customs duty of 20% or 100 €/ton for the export of sunflowers.
«This norm hits farmers hard and represents an additional burden on business. At the same time, farmers were promised to set a quantitative quota for the sale of sunflower seeds abroad, but these words remained just words. Since the beginning of February, the Chamber of Economic Chambers has received more than 10 inquiries from entrepreneurs on this topic. We submitted the issue for consideration by our Council of Agriculture and Food Industry, collected recommendations and forwarded business proposals to the Ministry of Agriculture, but did not receive an answer», reported D. Akimbaev.
After a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin, a protocol decision was later made to consider changing the foreign trade nomenclature in the form of details, namely with the assignment of a separate HS code for the Goods «Sunflower seeds in seed units» and then for all types of seeds. Since then, however, there has been no change, the statement said.
On behalf of all farmers in East Kazakhstan, the Chamber of Commerce calls on the relevant bodies to reconsider this issue at the government level and make an objective decision in favor of domestic producers.
As previously reported, Deputy Prime Minister S. Zhumangarin said that as a result of the introduction of export duties on sunflower seeds, it was possible to stabilize the sale prices of sunflower oil crops.
