An increase in the rice harvest is expected in the Odessa region

Landowners of Odessa region predict twice as much harvest than last year. Currently, 20% of the available rice systems are already involved in cultivation.

This is reported by local publications with reference to the head of the Kilian community, Vyacheslav Chernyavsky.

This spring, more than 2000 hectares of fields will be sown with rice. Although this number was twice as high in the pre-war years — about 4,5 thousand hectares of fields were used for the cultivation of "white gold".

“If the farmers knew in advance that there would be so much precipitation in the spring, they contributed more fertilizer in the winter. After all, the draftsmen did it the year before last, and then because of the drought they "burned" the leaves of the plants, notes Vyacheslav Chernyavsky.

Yield numbers will be better this year, he said. According to preliminary forecasts, farmers plan to harvest up to 5 tons of rice per hectare.

We will note that the Odessa region grows almost 30% of the total production of this culture in Ukraine. However, this year only 20% of the available rice systems were attracted to growing this crop.

We will remind, in Odessa region the rice sowing campaign began. The pumping station of the Kilian irrigation system for flooding rice trials on an area of more than 400 hectares worked.
