EU could increase imports of high-quality wheat from Canada

The premiums for high quality Wheat are rising in the EU, and good demand for North American spring wheat is expected in this market, reports The Western Producer.

Wheat quality in the EU is deteriorating, particularly in Poland, an important producer of high-protein wheat.

According to Areté estimates, the heavy rains at the end of spring led to a significant deterioration in the quality of the soft and durum wheat crops. The rains also delayed the July harvest campaign in Germany, Poland, Denmark and northern France. The unfavorable weather conditions also had a negative impact on wheat quality in Italy and Spain.

Against this background, European importers could increase their purchases of wheat with a protein content of 13-15% from Canada.

Agriculture Canada analysts expect that Canada could repeat the export success of the 2022/23 season, when the country shipped 20 million tonnes, and will export 2023 million tonnes of wheat in 24/19,8.

As noted, EU countries increased their purchases of wheat from Canada by 1% between July 28 and August 54 compared to last year.
