World food prices fall in 6 months


In September, the average value of the FAO food price index was 136,3 points, which is 1,5 points (1,1%) lower than August's value, continuing its decline for the sixth straight month, the organization's press service said on October 9th with

The fall in the index in September was due to a sharp fall in world vegetable oil prices and a modest fall in sugar, meat and dairy prices, which was more significant than the rise in the grain price index.

In September, the average price index was for Grains at 147,8 points, up 2,2 points (1,5%) from August. So are the worldwide ones wheat prices up 2,2% in September due to increasing uncertainty about the continuation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative after November and the possible consequences for exports from Ukraine. Other factors behind the increase in wheat prices were concerns about potential rainfall deficits in Argentina and the USA and the dynamics of EU grain exports combined with the increase in wheat purchases on world markets due to the corn supply tensions.

The vegetable oil price index stood at 152,6 points in September, down 10,8 points (6,6%) from the previous month and the lowest since February 2021. The continued decline in the index reflects the decline in palm oil prices, Soybean, Sunflowers- and Rapeseed oil contrary.
