The wheat harvest in Syria has fallen by 75 percent

A representative of the FAO in Syria has confirmed that the wheat harvest The country's rainfall has fallen by about 75% this year, largely due to rainfall deficits, reports The Syrian Observer.

As indicated, wheat production in Syria in 2022 was about 1 million tons. It is worth noting that the volume of wheat harvest in the country significantly depends on weather conditions, namely on the amount of precipitation. This year, due to the precipitation, Syrian farmers could not prepare the soil for sowing in time, which negatively affected the development of sowing.

The FAO report also cites other factors affecting the low wheat harvest, including the depreciation of the Syrian pound, which has pushed up fertilizer, seed and fuel prices.
