The forecast for the wheat harvest in the EU has been lowered slightly due to the reduction in acreage

Stratégie Grains experts in March lowered their forecast for EU wheat production in 2023/24 by 200.000 tonnes per month to 129,5 million tonnes (previous season 125,1 million tonnes) as key production regions, particularly in France, Lithuania and Spain, the area under cereals has been reduced.

It is noted that EU winter cereal harvests are overall in good condition. However, recent rainfall in France and Poland has contributed to the development of the crops, while the condition of the crops in Spain and south-eastern Europe requires further monitoring in the short term due to persistent rainfall and the projected prolonged drought.

The forecast for the 2023/24 EU maize crop is estimated by experts at 63,4 million tonnes (a slight reduction in acreage is expected in France, Italy, Hungary and Lithuania), compared to the 51,1 million tonnes harvested in the previous season.
