Stratégie Grains has increased the estimate for EU wheat production by 1,6 million tonnes

In the Stratégie Grains October report, total EU wheat production in 2022/23 increased by 1,6 million tonnes compared to the previous month's forecast to 132,7 million tonnes, but still below the 2021 harvested in 22/137,5. XNUMX million tons.

In particular, the estimate of wheat production per month by 1,4 million to 125,5 million tons (-4,3 million tons per year), thanks to high yields and increase in grain areas in Poland and Lithuania. However, experts in France, Germany, Finland and Scandinavia found wheat to be relatively low in protein, but other quality criteria were generally good.

68% of the mild wheat crop is expected to meet flour conditions, up from 62% a year earlier.

Thanks to the good yield, analysts have revised the forecast for the European barley production increased by 2022 million tons per month to 23 million tons in 0,4/51,4. However, due to the reduction in acreage, the expected harvest is slightly below the level of 2021/22 (-0,4 million tons per year). It is noted that the quality parameters of the grain are generally very good, especially in Northern Europe.

At the same time, the forecast for the European corn production significantly reduced – by 2,6 million tons per month to 50,4 million tons (2021 million tons were harvested in 22/70,2). The dry weather conditions in early October have contributed to the grain harvest, but have had a negative impact on yields, which are well below the average for the last 5 years, particularly in Hungary and France.
