More buckwheat, rice and peas will be sown in Russia in 2023

The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia held a meeting on planning the structure of acreage for the 2023 crop. In the coming year it is planned to increase sowing in almost all crops, including Buckwheat, Rice and Peas, reports the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

"An important task is to ensure the balance of supply on the agricultural market and the maximum yield of plants," noted the Department of Agriculture.

The area under rice and buckwheat is planned just over the current year and is enough to meet everyone's needs, the Ministry of Agriculture believes. As indicated by the Institut für Agrarmarkt-Konjunktur (IKAR), the acreage of buckwheat in 2018-2021 varied within 811-1045 thousand hectares. In 2022, according to preliminary data, they will have grown to more than 1,1 million hectares. At the same time, the tallest buckwheat plants in 2017 were the highest at 1,69 million hectares.

According to IKARUS data, over the past four years, the area under rice cultivation has amounted to 182-197 thousand hectares. An expansion was planned for 2022. However, the accident at the Fedorovsky waterworks in the Krasnodar Territory — the largest producer of this crop — was the reason for its reduction, preliminary — to 175 thousand hectares. Next year, rice farmers plan to increase rice crops.

Meanwhile, Russia can maintain its position on the world market for Legumes strengthen. The Ministry of Agriculture is planning, for example, usaing with exporters, an export program for Barley, peas and other crops to develop. The area under the beans, especially the peas, will be increased by at least 125.000 hectares. According to experts, the world market for these crops is sufficiently large and Russia can strengthen its position on it, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the Federal Center for Export Development (Agroexport), last year Russian exporters bet on foreign markets for legumes worth US$ 693 million, which is 97% more than in 2020. Physically, the delivery volume has a historic record of 1,6, reached 38 million tons. That's 2020% over XNUMX.

Overall, the total acreage under cultivation will grow by about 50.000 hectares next year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, to exceed 82 million hectares. The area below Grains and legumes will be 47,6 million hectares, which is 136.000 hectares larger than the current year. This indicator will ensure the required level of food security. According to estimates by the Department of Agriculture, gross production of 125 to 127 million tons of grain will balance the interests of producers, consumers and grain exporters.

According to the information, in order to maintain the stability of crop rotation, it is also necessary to increase the area under spring barley by 400 thousand hectares. In addition, growth in sugar beets and soybeans is announced for next year. Sowing sunflowers requires at least 9,8 million hectares and linseed at least 2,2 million hectares, which is larger than the original plan. An increase in areas under vegetables and potatoes is also forecast.

The authority sees the need to reduce the areas under the wheat by almost half a million hectares.

"This is necessary to maintain the price balance and stabilize the domestic market in the interest of all parties involved and to realize this year's bumper harvest," the Ministry of Agriculture said, adding that the target for wheat for next year is 80-85 million tons .
