Moldovan Railways will increase tariffs for Ukrainian grain transport from July

Starting July 1 of this year, the Moldova Railway (Calea Ferat din Moldova) will increase tariffs for grain transportation by 8%. This was stated by Deputy Director of the Department of Commercial Works “Ukrzaliznytsia” Valery Tkachev at a meeting with representatives of agricultural enterprises, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

The official noted that Ukrzaliznytsia has twice approached its Moldovan counterparts, most recently on June 9, asking for a discount on the transportation of grain and other goods, but so far to no avail.

According to Tkachev, Ukrzaliznytsia suggested aligning Ukrainian and Moldovan tariffs and naming the volume of cargo that Ukraine should transport through Moldova in order to get a discount.

“The difference in tariffs for grain delivery to grain elevators in Izmail is $10, in Reni - $12. If Ukraine could get a discount of about $5, it would be realistic to load not only the Reni direction, but also Giurgiulesti,” Tkachev said.
