Lithuania proposes to the EU to increase Ukrainian grain exports via the Baltic States

Lithuanian ministers have contacted EU officials with a proposal to increase grain exports from Ukraine via the transport route to the Baltic ports, the press service of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said. This was reported by the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the ministry, in a letter to European Commission officials, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, Transport and Communications Minister Marius Skuodis and Agriculture Minister Kęstutis Navickas stressed that Russia's decision to withdraw from the "Grain Agreement" and the rocket attacks on ports in the port of Odessa.

According to Lithuanian officials, the route between Ukraine and the Baltic States could become a promising and long-term alternative for grain exports.

They argue that improving the infrastructure of the corridor and facilitating the transfer of goods between different railway lines will help increase throughput capacity.

At the same time, the ministers added, the simplification of administrative procedures at the Polish-Ukrainian border, the introduction of green lines and the transfer of customs clearance to the Baltic ports would allow the volume of agricultural products transported by road and rail to multiply.

“The infrastructure of the Baltic States can become a promising and reliable transit route for Ukrainian products. The Baltic seaports have a large handling capacity for agricultural products - 25 million tons alone Grains per year,” they emphasized.
