Kazakhstan has earned $115 million from exporting sunflower seeds

According to Statistics and the Committee on Public Expenditure, Kazakhstan has 9 thousand tons in the 223 months of this year Sunflower seeds worth US$115 million, exports increased by 77% compared to the same period last year. The average export price for the year rose 8,8% to $515.

From early 2023, the Ministry of Trade and Integration plans to set an export duty on sunflower seeds at 20% but not less than 100 euros per ton. The message from the analytics service states that Atameken does not support this limitation.

“In view of the high risks of negative consequences for domestic farmers, I made an alternative proposal to continue monitoring the export of sunflowers until the end of the calculation of the current year's harvest results with the further introduction of a tariff quota. That is, the establishment of a general limit for the export of sunflowers by the end of the marketing year, exceeding which it is possible to introduce export duties of 20% of the export amount (contract value), but not less than $100 », – the Chamber informed.

The Ministry of Agriculture had previously announced that with the establishment of export duties there should be no quantitative restrictions on the export of sunflower seeds.

The MLC also noted that the production of sunflower oil in Kazakhstan has increased dramatically: in the 11 months of this year the growth was 66,6%. Oil exports exceeded last year's figure by 2,5 times and reached 204,8 thousand tons.

In 2021, three new plants with a processing capacity of 594.000 tons were commissioned in Kazakhstan. At present, the total capacity of 47 sunflower processing plants is 2,8 million tons.
