In the 2022/23 season, Ukraine can process around 11 million tons of sunflowers

In 2022/23 in Ukraine about 11 million tons Sunflowers processed, which is 5% worse than the previous season and can be updated at least from 2015. This forecast was made by oil market analyst Svetlana Kirichok in her speech at the Fat-And-Oil Industry-2022 conference in Warsaw.

As noted by the expert, the projected reduction will be due to a significant decrease in the area under sunflower cultivation in Ukraine in 2022 due to the war and, accordingly, the expectation that these oilseed is minimally produced in the country for an extended period of time.

However, such an indicator will be achieved if the grain agreement is extended and the export of sunflower oil is stable.

So, according to her, considering the increase in volumes of export of sunflower oil and meal with the start of work of the “grain corridor”, it is estimated that for the first time since February, the monthly processing volume in September this year was more than 1 million tons.

A meeting with Ukrainian agricultural producers, exporters, processors and representatives of relevant ministries is also expected to take place in October, at which the issue of current export restrictions of sunflowers from Ukraine to support the export of high value-added products will be considered. This will be a key support for processors as competition from exporters increases in the domestic sunflower market.
