Five EU countries have increased export and processing of grain at the expense of Ukraine

The border countries that banned the import of Ukrainian agricultural products in 2022 strengthened their export capacity, increased internal processing and increased the competitiveness of the livestock complex with imports from Ukraine.

This was stated by Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine Nikolai Solsky during the session of the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries, which was held in Brussels on May 29-30.

He noted that Poland increased its exports by more than a quarter, hitting a record high of €47,5 billion. Poultry meat production, thanks in particular to Ukrainian grain, increased by 7,5%.

“Poland has e.gusaTogether with other Eastern European countries where restrictions have been introduced, agricultural products (agricultural and food) are imported from Ukraine for €7 billion. According to expert estimates, this volume accounted for about €3,5 billion Grains and Oilseeds, which were exported to other countries after the overload. If we look at grain and oilseed exports only, it accounts for 80% of Ukrainian transit. At the same time, exports of agricultural products from these five countries increased by €2022 billion in 18,” the ministry's press service quoted Solski as saying.

He also noted that compared to the past this year the export of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine is expected to decrease by a third - up to 46 million tons per year. Therefore, Ukraine will be able to export less grain than last year by 40%.

Nikolai Solsky stressed that before deciding on a ban on deliveries, investigations must be carried out in accordance with European regulations.

"We are absolutely ready for such studies and we ask the EU to act according to the rules that the EU has laid down," he said.

The minister also stressed that the introduced restrictive measures must be abolished and sustainable solutions found in consultations with the participation of Ukraine.
