European Union increases wheat exports in 2022/23 by 12 percent compared to the previous year


According to the European Commission, EU countries have 2022 million tons in the 23/30 season, which ended on June 31,1 Soft wheat exported, which is 12% more than the result of the previous year.

The main suppliers of European grain on foreign markets were France - 10,13 million tons, Romania - 4,69 million tons, Germany - 3,91 million tons, Poland - 3,61 million tons, Bulgaria - 2,89 million tons, Lithuania – 2,78 million tons and Latvia – 2,28 million tons.

The main grain markets by seasonal results are Morocco - 4,68 million tons compared to 1,99 million tons in the previous marketing year, Algeria - 4,08 (4,95) million tons, Nigeria - 1,81 (2,23) million tons, Egypt – 1,80 (2,73) million tons and Saudi Arabia – 1,72 (0,52) million tons.

At the same time, EU wheat imports increased significantly in the 2022/23 marketing year, by 257% per year to 9,19 million tons. The largest grain supplier for the European market is Ukraine - 5,71 million tons compared to 357,4 thousand tons in the 2021/22 marketing year. It should be noted that the share of Ukrainian exports to the EU increased from 14,1% to 62,3% for the year, while the share of the Russian Federation increased from 19,1% (it was down in the 2021/22 marketing year the UK, the second largest supplier of wheat to the EU) fell to 3,3%.

Estonia bought the most wheat with 4,07 million tons in the 2022/23 marketing year. Romania (926,3 thousand tons), Poland (812,7 thousand tons) and Italy (706,9 thousand tons) also imported large volumes.
