EU cuts oilseed imports by almost 1,5 times


In the period from July 1 to August 6 of this year, EU countries imported over 1,3 million tons of the most important Oilseeds, which is 44% less than the same period last season.

According to the monitoring data of the experts of the European Commission, during the reporting period 1,09 million tons Soybeans (-20% for the year), almost 200 thousand tons Rapeseeds (-66%) and 26,8 thousand tons Sunflower seeds (-93%) imported into the EU territory.

Brazil, the USA, Australia, Uruguay, Canada and Ukraine were the main suppliers of these products to Europe for more than a month. Smaller oilseed shipments also came from Serbia, Moldova, Argentina and China.

Against the background of reduced purchases of raw materials, EU countries have reduced their imports of vegetable oil increased by 4% (from July 1 to August 6, 2023). Thus, imports of Soybean oil to 96,8 thousand tons (+179% yoy) and from Sunflower oil to 177,1 thousand tons (+2%). On the other hand, deliveries of palm and Rapeseed oil to 297,4 thousand tons (-7%) and 22,65 thousand tons (-45%).

Indonesia, Malaysia, Guatemala, Guatemala, Ukraine, Belarus and Argentina shipped the most oil to the EU over the period.
