Some European countries are allowed to restrict imports of agricultural products from Ukraine

The European Commission (EC) will this week present changes to EU trade rules that will allow countries bordering Ukraine to restrict imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. This was announced by EU Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis. His words are quoted by TASS.

The EU countries that border Ukraine include Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. Dombrovskis said that the new measures would protect these European states from the consequences of duty-free imports of agricultural products from Ukraine.

This should be achieved with the help of additional guarantees. “We will think about how we can give additional guarantees to Poland and other EU member states,” Dombrovskis concluded.

In mid-January, it was reported that the agriculture ministries of countries bordering Ukraine sent a joint letter to the EU demanding the return of customs duties on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products into the EU. This measure should help European farmers protect their interests and develop their export potential.
