Poland is tightening controls on agricultural products at the border with Ukraine

Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czeslaw Seckerski has announced tightening controls and intensifying inspections of Ukrainian agricultural products exported to Poland. This emerges from a communication from the Ministry of Agriculture and Development of Poland on the X network.

It says that Seckerski is currently inspecting checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border.

“Excessive imports of agricultural products from Ukraine that do not meet EU production requirements threaten the competitiveness of Polish agriculture,” the Polish ministry emphasized.

As part of the inspection of agricultural products from Ukraine, the minister visited the Medika and Korczewa border crossings.

During the visit to the checkpoints, the minister also met with representatives of the agricultural organization “Betrayed Village” zusammen who had previously blocked the road near the Medyka-Shegini checkpoint.

It was previously reported that Polish farmers announced a new nationwide strike on February 9th, which will last until March 10th.

Previously, the agriculture ministers of Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary called for the resumption of import duties on Ukrainian grain in a general letter to the European Commission.

The European Commission rejected this request, after which Poland proposed to introduce a new protection mechanism at the EU level that would impose regional restrictions on the import of certain types of agricultural products from Ukraine.

At the same time, Polish Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Seckerski stated that the new Polish government would not lift the ban on imports of a number of agricultural products from Ukraine and that the embargo on their import into Poland was indefinite. At the same time, the country's authorities recognize that this decision violates EU regulations and will try to bring it legally into line with them.

As previously reported, Ukraine has offered Poland a mechanism for verifying exports of agricultural products in line with the European Commission's decision, which is already working effectively with Romania and Bulgaria.
