In 2023, the leader in the purchase of Ukrainian agricultural products has changed

According to the results of 2023, Romania for the first time leads the ranking of the largest importers of Ukrainian agricultural products, having purchased them last year for $2,875 billion (or 13% of the total volume of supplies from Ukraine). This fact was noted by the deputy director of the NSC “Institute of Agricultural Economics” Mykola Pugachev, the center's press service reported.

“China took second place in the ranking of importers. At the same time, the country increased the volume of purchases of Ukrainian agricultural products in terms of value. While the value of Ukrainian deliveries to China was $2022 billion in 1,888, it rose by around 2023% to $18 billion in 2,22. China's share of domestic agricultural exports was 10% last year,” the scientist added.

Turkey, which imported $1,994 billion worth of agricultural products from Ukraine last year, took third place in this ranking with a share of 9%.

“The consequences of the restrictions on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine imposed by Poland last spring and continuing to this day were not only the loss of its status as the main buyer of ours on the world market, but also a decrease in the value of its imports by a third - to 1,797 billion US dollars,” – said Pugachev.

The top 10 importers of Ukrainian agricultural products at the end of 2023 also include Spain (US$1,765 billion), the Netherlands (US$1,274 billion), Egypt (US$1,066 billion), Italy (US$1,045 billion). ), Germany ($862 million) and Hungary ($471 million).

“These ten countries generated 69 percent of the foreign exchange earnings of domestic agricultural exporters last year. The main products of domestic agricultural exports are traditionally grains, vegetable oils and fats, various oilseeds, residues of food and processing industries, as well as meat and by-products,” Pugachev added.
