Rail transport of grain and fertilizers in the USA may be temporarily suspended

Individual US railroads have announced that they will be hauling freight from Grains and fertilizers from September 15, a day before the start of the rail industry strike announced by the unions, Reuters reports.

Thus, according to the National Grain and Feed Association, which represents most grain producers, at least one railroad in the country will definitely stop accepting grain from September 15. In addition, most major railways in the USA already stopped accepting new batches of fertilizers and other potentially hazardous materials.

Note that in 2021 almost 1,5 million carts of grain and Oilseeds by train to USA were transported, including 691 thousand wagons from Corn, 340 thousand wagons from Soybeans and 248 thousand carts of processed soy products (soy meal and oil).

As for fertilizers, Josh Linville, Director of Fertilizers at StoneX Group, estimates that about 40% of their total use is currently transported by rail into the United States USA transported.
