Germany bought the most Ukrainian oilseeds in 2023


The product structure of domestic agricultural exports is traditionally dominated by plant products. In addition to grain, these primarily include oilseeds, vegetable oil and their processed products. This is reported by the press service of the National Scientific Center “Institute of Agricultural Economics”.

Overall, the quantitative volume of deliveries of the main products of this group to foreign markets did not decrease so sharply. Exports of rapeseed in physical form fell from 3,1 million tons in 2022 to 3,0 million tons in 2023, and soybeans, on the contrary – increased by 1,5 million tons – to an indicator of 3,0, 2,8 million tons. A significant decrease in sunflower exports - from 2022 million tons in 0,8 to 2023 million tons in XNUMX, the scientist informs.

According to him, the main buyers of Ukrainian oilseeds and oils in 2023, as in previous years, are primarily European countries, as well as representatives of Asia.

The year 2023 will be characterized by the consolidation of the European Union's position on the markets for fruits and seeds of domestic oilseeds. Last year, the countries of this region accounted for about 70% of the value of purchases of all oilseeds from Ukraine, according to Nikolai Pugachev.

According to him, Germany, which lost first place to Romania in 2022, regained the top position with a 16,2% share of Ukrainian exports of this type of agricultural products.

Romania moved up to second place with a share of 14,7%, pushing Turkey (13,4%) to third place in the ranking.

Egypt, which was not among the top 2022 buyers of domestic oilseeds in 10, confidently took fourth place (11,0%).

The Netherlands' share of the rankings last year was 7,7% and Poland's was 5,0%.

ZusaOverall, these six countries brought Ukraine 68% of export revenue from all overseas oilseed shipments.

In 2023, the volume of export shipments of soybean oil will increase by 298 thousand tons (+26%), and the volume of rapeseed oil will increase by 379 thousand tons (+476%), the expert said.

In the group of oils and fats, sunflower oil remains the most important export item. In 2023, its exports from Ukraine amounted to 5,7 million tons - 34% more than in 2022. Revenue from the sale of sunflower oil amounted to $5,0 billion, which is 8% less than in 2022. These are 8 percent less than last year, noted Mykola Pugachev.

In 2023, the ranking of the oilseed group's main buyers changed.

It was led for the first time by Romania with a share of 17,7%.

The second place was also taken for the first time by Turkey (15,0%), which exported a significant share of foreign shipments of this type of agricultural products last year.

In third place in the ranking is China with a share of 11,1%.

Poland, which topped the top 2022 buyers of Ukrainian oil for the first time in 10, took fourth place last year with 10,9%.

The Netherlands' share was 6,6 percent.

India, which in 2022 does not occupy the top position among importers of this type of agricultural product for the first time in more than 10 years, bought 6,0% of the oil last year.
