Georgia becomes ZusaIncrease tariffs on flour imports by 25 percent

The Georgian government has decided to lift the temporary tariff on imports of all-purpose flour increase by 25% to support local producers. This was announced by Georgian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Tengiz Nazaridze.

“In recent months there has been a trend towards an increase in flour imports, caused by the unstable price formation and excessive harvest in the world. In view of this, we have decided to increase the import duty on a ton of flour by 50 lari (about 19,2 US dollars) to 250 lari (about 96 US dollars),” said Nazaridze following the results of the last Government meeting.

The deputy minister also said that it was decided to impose additional duties on the import of Barley and bran at the rate of 100 lari (approximately US$38,4) per 1 ton. According to Nazaridze, this will help local wheat producers sell their products at acceptable prices. He stressed that the decision to increase import tariffs will not have an impact on bread prices.

According to Nazaridze, the period of validity of the Zusatariffs on imports of wheat flour extended until March 1, 2024.
