Duda believes ban on imports of Ukrainian grain is right

Polish farmers ensure the country's food security, which is why the embargo against Ukrainian Grains is the right decision. This was stated by Polish President Andrzej Duda, as PAP reports.

“I think it was the right decision that the Polish government maintained the ban on the sale of Ukrainian grain on the Polish market. However, I am absolutely sure that everything must be done to ensure the greatest possible transit,” emphasized the President.

According to him, Ukrainian grain “did not go to the countries that needed it,” but to markets like the Polish one.

“The Polish government had to take radical measures to support farmers and protect our market and agriculture,” – added Duda.

We will remind that after September 15, Poland said that Poland continues the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain, despite the decision of the European Commission. Ukraine threatened WTO arbitration and announced it would impose an embargo on onions, tomatoes, cabbage and apples from Poland in the coming days.

The day before, the Polish Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador over statements made by Vladimir Zelenskiy at the UN General Assembly, who said some EU countries were playing with Russia by turning grain into a thriller. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry later called on Poland to “put aside emotions” and stressed that Ukraine had proposed a constructive way to resolve the grain issue.

Duda also said that the dispute over supplies of Ukrainian grain to the Polish market was “a minor aspect of Ukrainian-Polish relations” and therefore would not significantly affect them.
