Brazil's sugar production increased by 35 percent


Sugar production in southern and central Brazil rose 35 percent year-on-year to 1,4 million tons in the second half of November, according to data from industry group UNICA on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

According to the UNICA report, 23,9 million tons of sugarcane were processed during this period, 46 percent more than the previous year. Total ethanol production increased by 39,9 percent to 1,25 billion liters. Sugar factories in Brazil's main sugar cane growing region are now starting to process sugar cane from this year's harvest.

According to UNICA, 78 sugar factories have completed processing, compared to 178 in the same period last year when bad weather affected production.
