The area under cultivation of amaranth in Ukraine will increase to 10 thousand hectares. Volhynia is a leader in the cultivation of the plant. This was announced by the Association of Producers of Amaranth and Amaranth Products.
It is noted that this year the association increases the area under amaranth cultivation to 10 thousand hectares. At the same time, at least 1 thousand hectares are expected in Volhynia. The decision to increase the area under cultivation of amaranth was made due to a large number of requests for commodity seeds, which Ukrainian growers simply could not fulfill by the 2023 harvest.
For this purpose, the association plans to set up a pre-cleaning and drying facility on the farm of farmer Oleg Shchesyuk from Kovel.
“We are looking for other partners in the region (as well as in all regions of Ukraine) who have facilities for cleaning and drying small seeds in order to fully solve this problem with minimal logistical costs,” – added in the association.
The Association of Producers of Amaranth and Amaranth Products expects that the purchase prices for amaranth seeds in the new season will increase to UAH 30.000/ton including VAT. Bio-Amaranth can be sold at a price of 50.000 UAH/t including VAT.
