Lithuania imported Russian grain again for the first time in February 2024, RIA Novosti reports, citing data from the European Statistical Service.

It is noted that Lithuania stopped regularly purchasing Russian grain in May 2023, and the last delivery was in July. After the interruption, in February 2024, the country purchased 12,2 thousand tons of grain worth 1,95 million euros.

Neighboring Baltic country Latvia also increased its purchases in February, importing 58.800 tonnes worth 10 million euros (52.600 tonnes worth 8,7 million euros in January).

In total, all European Union countries purchased 92,6 thousand tons of Russian grain worth €16,9 million. Previously, it was reported that from March 14, Lithuania plans to impose stricter controls on the import of Russian grain into the country, which enters through the port of Klaipeda.
