The Mexican government has proposed introducing a ban on the use of genetically modified Corn to 2025, the country's economy minister, Raquel Buenrostro, told Reuters on December 7.
She said work is underway to make the necessary changes to Mexico's presidential decree banning the use of the herbicide glyphosate and genetically modified corn from 2024.
Recall that this decree already contains the threat of lawsuits on the part of the USA triggered, which deliver about 17 million tons of corn to Mexico every year. In this case, the current version of the decree provides for a ban on the use of genetically modified maize for food purposes, while grain for feed is allowed for import.
