Customs duty for exporting sunflowers from Kazakhstan may be introduced in January

Now in Kazakhstan no customs duty applies to the export of Sunflower seeds abroad, but from January 2023 it is to be imported at a rate of 20%, but not less than €100 per tonne. This was reported in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

«The application of export duties is a measure that allows, firstly, to maintain the average annual export volume of sunflowers, secondly, to limit the excessive export of raw materials from the country in conditions of high demand and rising prices on world markets, and thirdly, to develop their own processing , to promote production and export of value-added products," the agency said.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 133,9 thousand tons of crops were exported from the country within 9 months of this year, while export quotas for Oilseeds apply, and 113,3 thousand tons were exported in the same period of 2021 (excluding quota quotas).

«Thus, the introduction of quotas allowed exporters to export the volume of sunflower at a level not exceeding the volume of previous years and allowed the state to prevent a situation when the domestic market of the production of sunflower oil and feed for poultry in the form of butter cake and scrap without domestic raw materials," emphasized the Ministry of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, production of sunflower oil in Kazakhstan from January to November increased by almost 67% compared to the same period of 2021. Exports amounted to 204,8 thousand tons compared to 79,9 thousand tons in 11 months of 2021.
