The severe drought in Tunisia threatens the loss of up to 20% of the grain harvest

The severe drought in Tunisia and the resulting fires can grain harvest in the country this year, according to estimates by market operators and farmers, Reuters reports.

Thus, the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture forecast the grain harvest in the country in 2022 at 1,8 million tons (+ 10% per year). However, the Tunis Agricultural Cooperative expects that figure not to exceed 1,4 million tons, which is 20% below the ministry's forecast.

Usually, the grain harvest in Tunisia begins in the first days of July, but this year, according to farmers' expectations, it will begin en masse no earlier than July 18.
