The Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT) was a futures exchange that operated in Kansas City, Missouri, from 1856 to 2013. It was one of the oldest and most respected exchanges in the United States. The KCBT was best known for trading futures and options on hard red winter wheat, a type of wheat used to make bread. The exchange also offered contracts for other agricultural products such as corn, soybeans and oats. The KCBT was a major player in the global agricultural commodities market, and its prices were widely followed by farmers, traders and food companies around the world. In particular, the exchange’s wheat futures contract was considered a benchmark for the global wheat market. In 2013, KCBT was acquired by Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), a leading operator of global exchanges, clearing houses and provider of data and listing services.
