The cedi is the official currency of Ghana. It is divided into 100 pesewas. Its ISO abbreviation is GHS, the currency symbol ₵. The name cedi is derived from the Akan word for kauri – “sedie”. Cowries were a means of payment in West Africa from the 15th century until the beginning of the 20th century. (You can find the current exchange rate here.)
