In Belarus there are prospects for the development of oilseed production: Next to Rape have the acreage below Sunflowers and flax steadily increased in the country in recent years. This point of view of BELTA was expressed by the head of the food production department of the Belarusian state food industry concern Belgospishcheprom, Andrey Bagh.
According to him, the natural and economic conditions allow efficient cultivation of rapeseed, which occupies 97% in the structure of the national oilseed crop.
“Over the past five years, rapeseed production has increased by 1,8 times and in 2022 it amounted to 805,3 thousand tons. The gross fee was influenced by an increase in yield from 13,1 quintals/hectare in 2018 to 21,3 quintals/hectare in 2022,” said the expert.
«I am sure that in order to expand the rapeseed market in Belarus, it is necessary to ensure the development of promising breeding directions of this crop. Today there are already rapeseed varieties and hybrids with an oil content of 42-50% and a protein content of 24-27%," said the head of the department.
In addition, according to the expert, local companies are able to process about 2 million tons of oilseeds annually. The safety rate for home-made cooking oil is 223%.
"The production volumes achieved not only correspond to the optimistic level of food security, but also enable an increase in exports," Sack stated.
Note that rapeseed oil (the main export product of the Belarusian oil industry) was sold in 2022 in 22 countries worth almost $640 million, according to “Belgospishcheprom”.
