Japan plans to make concerted efforts to reduce its dependence on imported agricultural products in the coming years, NHK World Japan announced Dec. 20.
Japan, one of the largest importers of Grains of the world, stated in a draft government proposal by NHK that it was necessary to increase domestic production of agricultural products and fertilizers to improve the country's food security.
According to NHK, the proposal calls for a 9% increase in wheat acreage and a 16% increase in soybean acreage by 2030. And also a 20% reduction in the use of chemical fertilizers over the same period.
