Kazakhstan has significantly increased exports of organic wheat, flax and soybeans


Kazakhstan has significantly increased the export of organic agricultural products. The main direction of export of Kazakh organic products is the EU countries.

According to the Organic Producers Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the largest share of deliveries is Wheat attributable ($13,2 million in 2021 vs. $1,7 million in 2020), flex seeds ($12,5 million compared to $9,8 million) and the export of Soybeans has also increased significantly - from $0,2 million in 2020 to $9,5 million in 2021.

The total volume of supplies of Kazakh organic products to foreign markets in 2021 amounted to 36 million US-Dollar (up from $12,5 million in 2020).

The Digest clarifies that Kazakhstan ranks 9th for export of organic products to the EU, 4th for supply of organic wheat and 6th for export of organic flaxseed.

In Kazakhstan, about 50% of the land and 70 pastures are suitable for the production of organic products. This together allows the production of organic products worth 2 billion EUR or 1,5% of the total world market.

According to experts, the global market for organic products has increased sevenfold in the last 20 years to 7 billion EURO elevated. This was encouraged by the growing income of the population and the desire to strengthen health against the background of the coronavirus epidemic.

The area under cultivation for these products in the world has increased fivefold to 74,9 million Hektar increased, with the share of organic agricultural land in the total structure of global cultivated areas amounting to 1,6%.

Interestingly, in Kazakhstan this indicator is approximately equal to the world average – out of 22 million hectares, about 1,3% is allocated for organic products.

According to QazTrade, there are 38 farms in Kazakhstan that produce organic products (Grains, oilseeds, legumes, fodder crops and honey).
